Bible Study on Romans: The Certainty of Justification, Pt. 2: Romans 4:17-25

Summary: Abraham is an illustration of one who was declared righteous by faith in God. In this section, his faith in God’s promise to make him the father of many nations was tested and proven.

1. A. What was God’s promise to Abraham? (Rom. 4:13; Gen. 15:1-6)

B. How would God fulfill that promise?

C. What attributes do you observe in God throughout this process?

2. A. In Rom. 4:18-20, describe Abraham’s faith.

B. What was Abraham’s response to his natural condition in light of God’s promise?

C. What situation have you found yourself in that might be similar to Abraham’s?

3. A. What is faith? (Rom. 10:17; Heb. 11)

B. How does one grow in faith? (James. 1:2-4; I Pet. 1:6-9) How did Abraham display his faith? (Heb. 11:17; James 2:21-24)

C. Discuss ways your faith has recently been tested, and what you have learned.

4. Review some or all of these verses and dwell on what God is able to do: Dan. 3:17, 29; 4:37; 6:20; Matt. 3:9; Rom. 4:21; 11:23; 14:21; 16:25; Eph. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:12; Heb. 2:18; 7:25; Jude 24.
