Thoughts of John

What is on my mind.

Bible Study on Romans: God is For Us! Pt. 3: Romans 8:33-34

Summary: Paul makes the case that God is for us forever. As the only rightful judge, Christ Himself declares us righteous. Since He, the very standard of righteousness makes us righteous, there is none to condemn us in God’s courtroom.

1. A. According to Romans 5:6-8 and Ephesians 2:1-3, how is our own adequacy described in approaching God? What kind of worthiness do you see?

B. Even though left to ourselves we were helpless, ungodly sinners and children of wrath, how did God respond to us? Rom. 3:23-26, 5:8-11, Eph. 2:4-7, 1 Peter 3:18

C. Since the Lord Jesus was condemned for our sins in our place in order to satisfy God’s justice, how should we respond? Rom. 3:27-30, Eph. 2:8-10, James 4:6-8

2. A. How are believers identified according to Romans 8:33?

B. Explain how being chosen of God protects us from the accusations of the devil, of unsaved enemies, and from our own doubts of unbelief. Is. 54:17, Zech. 3:1-4, Rom. 8:31-32, Rev. 12:10-11

C. Have you ever felt falsely accused? Are you ready to give up your unfounded fears and rely on God’s work on your behalf? Rom. 10:11, Eph. 6:10-18

3. A. Who does all the work regarding our salvation in Romans 8:33-34?

B. Since God does all the work in saving us, how would you explain the certainty or the finality of our salvation? Ps. 103:8-14, Is. 50:8-9, Rom. 3:26

C. So in whom are you trusting? Are you attempting to be self-reliant, which will cause you to waver, or are you dependant on the certainty of God’s work? Rom. 4:16-21

4. A. Specifically, what are the great works of Christ found in Rom. 8:34?

B. Most of us know why Christ died on the cross. But can you explain why He was raised from the dead? On what basis was Christ raised? Rom. 4:25, Rom. 6:5-12, 14:9, Heb. 10:10-14, 12:2

C. Are you a living example of a risen Christ? Do you consider yourself to be continuously dead to sin and alive to God, so that He runs your life? How so?

5. A. Please observe the last work of Christ that He continues to do in Rom. 8:34.

B. How does this relate to Christ as our Advocate and the permanence of His faithfulness towards us? Heb. 7:24-27, 9:24

C. Our holy and almighty Advocate continues to be for us, because He continues to intercede for us. Have you allowed Him to be your confidence in dealing with sin? 1 John 2:1-6
